On ANZAC Day, Thursday 25th April, students from Australian Christian College (ACC) proudly participated in the city's annual ANZAC Day March and commemorative service. This important event provided a powerful opportunity for our students to reflect on the sacrifices made by Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women and to honour the legacy of courage, mateship, and resilience they left behind.
A group of ACC students joined the morning parade through the heart of Albany, marching alongside veterans, service members, and community groups. Students wore their uniforms with pride representing both their school and their gratitude. Albany holds a special place in ANZAC history as the departure point for the first convoy of Australian and New Zealand troops in 1914, making this event particularly meaningful.
Following the march, students and staff attended the official memorial service at the Anzac Peace Park. With reverence, students laid wreaths during the ceremony, listened to moving speeches, the recitation of the Ode of Remembrance, and the haunting notes of the Last Post, followed by a minute of silence. One student is chosen every year to read a letter detailing the experiences from a serviceman or women. This year Erin Mitchell, a Year 12 ACC student was honoured to participate, reading a letter written by Mary Heath who served with the Women’s Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War.
"It was a humbling experience," said one ACC student. "Being part of the service in Albany, where the ANZAC story began, made me realise how important it is to remember and honour those who gave everything."
At ACC, we believe in instilling values of respect, gratitude, and community service. Participating in the ANZAC Day events is a meaningful tradition that helps our students connect with Australia’s heritage and grow in character.
We thank all the students, staff, and families who took part or came to support, and we continue to pray for peace and unity in our world today.
Lest we forget.
