Playing sport is a great way to interact in your local community, make friends, stay fit and have fun. ACC sees community sport as a valuable way in which we can engage with our community and also provide students with an opportunity to participate in sports of their choice. This year, ACC has employed Joseph Elliss for a half day per week to oversee the organisation of school clubs.

In 2025, we are aiming to enter teams into the local soccer, volleyball and basketball competitions. With winter registrations only about a month or two away for soccer and volleyball, we are aiming to get the ball rolling with the process of making teams.

For soccer, we would like to enter teams from MiniRoos (ages 7-9) as well as teams in the under 8s, under 10s, under 11s and under 13s. In order for this to happen, we need a coach and parent manager for each team as well as a full team of players. Soccer games run on Saturday mornings and happen down at the North road soccer grounds. The season will go from the beginning of Term 2 through till the end of Term 3. The competitions are organised by the GSSA and ACC is a registered club. Our school soccer program has been well established in the past thanks to Mr. Wee, Mrs. Sephton and Mr. Gill as well as many other parents and staff.

Volleyball is a new sport that we are promoting this year thanks to Mr. Elliss and his involvement in the volleyball community. We are aiming to enter teams into the junior secondary volleyball competition which runs at ALAC. This includes students from Year 7 through to Year 9. If there is significant interest for a team from Year 10-12, we can also put a team into the Upper Secondary Competition. Each volleyball team needs one parent manager to be at games. Coaching will be done by Mr. Elliss as well as some other staff helpers. Training will be on Tuesday afternoons (week to be confirmed) from 3-4pm during Term 1 and games will commence in Term 2 going through till the end of Term 3.

If you are interested in joining either soccer or volleyball, can you please contact Mr Elliss via email (josephelliss@acc.edu.au). Please state the student, the age, the sport and whether or not you are able to coach or manage a team. If you are concerned about finances for the sports, there is Kidsport Financial Assistance available. We would love to have as many teams as we can in both of these community sports.

Finally, we want to also add that there are many other sporting programs in the Great Southern that we encourage students to participate in. We have current students who participate in AFL, dancing, martial arts, surfing, mountain biking, surf life saving, rugby and the list goes on. Feel free to email Mr. Elliss if you have any queries regarding Community Sports and he can look into it for you.
