In this digital world, we would like to encourage and empower you, the parents, in keeping your children safe in that space. Here are two ideas to help you along the way:
1. Access the Experts!
The eSafety Commissioner is a federal initiative dedicated to keeping people safer online. It has been operating since 2015 and operates on the world digital stage. They are at the forefront of the fight against online risks and harms faced by adults as well as children. This team of educators, investigators, lawyers, policy analysts, technology experts, digital specialists, and other professionals are seeking to ensure a safer and more positive online experience for all Australians - children and adults.
These experts offer parent webinar sessions designed to upskill parents in understanding the risks and keeping children safe online. We would strongly recommend that you take advantage of this fantastic opportunity. The list of courses and dates can be found at this link (https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/webinars).
2. Teach and Encourage Good Online Relationship Skills
Six important areas we can be talking with our children about are shown in the diagram below. They are critical relationship skills that will help our children to behave online in ways that protect them and those they interact with. This information was put together by a WA initiative called Emerging Youth whose aim is to support and empower young people.
