Elite Athlete Spotlight - Kate Appelboom

One of our Student Leaders, Kate Appelboom, has been extremely active in the school break. In January, Kate travelled to Goulburn, NSW, to represent Western Australia for the U14 Girls at the National Australia Indoor Hockey Championships. She had a very rewarding tournament and helped to lead and encourage the team as vice-captain. Facing strong opposition, the team achieved a draw against ACT and a convincing 5–1 victory over South Australia. They ended 7th in the competition overall.

The team bonded very well on and off the field and this reflected in their great behaviour during games and positive team spirit shown whilst supporting the other WA teams at the championships. In recognition of this, the WA U14 Girls team was awarded the “Play the Whistle” certificate. Kate is very grateful to God for this amazing opportunity, for a safe trip with no serious injuries, and for the new friendships made.
