Dear Parents

We love this time of the year at ACC.  We have led up to Easter in the classrooms with many bible stories and discussions. We are counting the Easter Eggs and dividing them up in readiness for Easter Egg hunts. These hunts range from the hidden eggs, following clues the students have set. Some teachers use the dividing of the eggs for students to practice their mathematical skills. No matter what style, it is very exciting.

I love how the children have so many questions about the story of Easter and that we all respect and love each other enough to openly discuss at our school what we believe. Sometimes this thought of Jesus dying gives us very big feelings and that is good. It is good to think and ask questions, to question the meaning of life and our lives. Jesus loves us to talk about what he did, he wants us to use our brains and our hearts. His invitation is always there for everyone. To love and follow him, to put him first in our lives.

This week we had hot cross buns and egg hunts and activities including a coloring competition to celebrate Easter. We will also praise God by singing and dancing and playing music. So even though the story of the cross gives us big feelings we also celebrate what he has done for us.

Faith Week

Faith Week is fun and meaningful. We started the week with a whole school assembly at Living Water church. We showcased our primary school choir, the Year 1 and 2 singing with the Year 12 students and our school band. Mrs Jansz, our school chaplain, gave a great talk about God of the unexpected asking children to say whether parts of the Easter story were expected or unexpected.

The crowdedness displayed just how much our school grew since last year and we are looking forward to when we can have assemblies in our new building.

The Growth Camp

The Year 6 Growth Camp is a three-day camp at the Kennedy Camping Centre (Torbay) where students are given the opportunity to face challenges and experience growth. The activities during the camp are designed to strengthen the bond between classmates, build teamwork and leadership skills, and develop individual character.

Our 2024 Year 6 rose to the challenge and Mr Sinclair was impressed with their team work and care for each other. The action packed camp included a hike up castle rock in the Porongurups, a barn dance, hikes along the beach, swims at Cosy Corner and the Albany Wind Farm and Sand Patch on the last day. The camp assisted our students to grow in confidence and bond as a class.

Try A - Sport - Day

Year 5 and 6 joined other local independent schools for ADPSSA Multisport Day, at the North Road Playing Fields. This event was to be a day filled with excitement, fun, and learning as students got the unique opportunity to try out a new sport in a friendly competition with other schools. They choose from hockey, soccer, or football. The staff were proud of the sportsmanship and friendship displayed by the students at ACC.

Beach Clean Up Day

On Friday, 20th of October, Years 4 and 5 students had an exciting Beach Clean Up Day at Griffith Street Beach.

This inspiring Beach Clean Up initiative was organized by the Keep Australia Beautiful Council in collaboration with the Tangaroa Blue Marine Debris Institute. Samantha Culbertson, the KABC Community Education Coordinator, joined ACC for this fantastic opportunity for the students to engage in scientific learning while actively contributing to a global research project on marine debris.

Mrs White and Mrs Kohrs led the rubbish collection with the keen students. Some students were so inspired by the day of being citizen scientists that they made posters to display around the school.

Our Little Engineers

During term one students investigated forces and the use of different materials to design cars in Design and Technology. Throughout their exploration, they gained a comprehensive understanding of how various forces shape the movement and performance of objects, particularly automobiles. Armed with this knowledge, students eagerly set out to apply their newfound insights by engaging in a hands-on project: constructing their very own cars using lightweight materials. Students honed their creativity and problem-solving skills and also gained a deeper appreciation for the intricate balance between design, materials, and forces that drive the innovation of modern vehicles. This project helped students to apply theoretical concepts in a practical context and to foster a sense of excitement and curiosity, laying the foundation for future exploration and discovery in the realms of science and engineering. Well done Year 4 students.

The last few weeks of the term have been very busy. I was very glad to see so many families turn up for the Parent teacher meetings and the Faith Week assembly. I wish you all a great Easter holiday and I am looking forward to seeing all the rested and happy faces.
