Hello Parents and Carers,
God has blessed us in Albany with wonderful school weather. The warmer than usual autumn weather has allowed for a lot of outdoor activities and play.
Although this is great for the playground we have prayed for rain for the farmers and the bush. Quite a few of our ACC families have been affected by the dryer season and we ask you to pray for them.
This thinking of others attitude is echoed throughout the morning devotions by staff, the devotions in classes and the values taught in Year 6 outdoor education.
ANZAC Day
We had a remarkable turnout at the 2024 ANZAC Day march. The students, with their heads held high, marched in honour of the soldiers, families, and communities that have been affected by the war. Their understanding and empathy, even at such a young age, never fail to impress me. We marched down York st, and as the youngest students were handed back to their parents, our older primary and high school students stood close to the stage for the service. It was a joy to see a number of newer ACC families attend to represent the school. Throughout the school, students delved into the significance of ANZAC Day.
Cross Country
Thursday brought perfect conditions as our students eagerly took to the well-worn undulating trail known as the Southlands Challenge. They were more than ready, having practised their chants the day before and proudly donning their faction colours. Parents, filled with a mix of nerves and excitement, huddled together on the slopes overlooking the starting line, sharing in the anticipation of the event.
Then it was on. All students ran incredibly well and should be very proud of their efforts. There was a wonderful atmosphere among the students as they cheered each other on.
The event rounded off with a wonderful presentation ceremony, during which the Magpies were declared the winners of this year's points total. Thank you to Mrs Bresanello for organising the day and running such a smooth event. Students who achieved the top results will be approached to represent our school at the Primary Interschool Cross Country event in week 10.
Whale World Visit
In week 3, the Year 5 class had a wonderful time visiting Albany’s historic Whaling station. Their tour guide, James, guided them through the history of whaling in Albany and its impact on the community. Students were captivated by the audio reenactment of a whale chase on the Cheynes IV. After watching the movies in the massive oil tanks, students explored the Cheynes IV ship.
The final stop on the trip was the Wildlife Park. Students had the opportunity to get up close to over 300 animals, including white kangaroos, wombats, pink galas, and a selection of snakes and lizards.
When they returned to school, the students excitedly shared their experiences with their friends from the other classes, and their enthusiasm was contagious.
Walk Safely To School Day
It was wonderful to see over 40 students and parents walk together to school on Friday. The objective of National Walk Safely to School day is to improve health, reduce air pollution, car reliance and to enhance road safety. The Year 12 leaders gave out fake tattoos for everyone participating.
Collingwood Oval to school is only around 1 km and is a great way to get some incidental exercise into a day. There is ample parking and even a club run on a Tuesday morning.
Our little surfers
We are proud of our students; Jed, Ryker, Freddie, Mikayla, Ava, Tory, Mel, and Annabelle who represented ACC at the Junior Wavefest Surfing Comp two weekends ago.. They all did an amazing job with lots of places and Mikayla winning champion U14 girls!
So great to see so many young surfers in our school and we are excited to see the four year 8 girls head to the Interschool surfing competition next week! Go Ava, Tory, Mel and Annabelle.

Swimming Lessons (Coming up)
During weeks 6 & 7 this term, students will participate in swimming lessons at Albany
Leisure and Aquatic Center. Swimming lessons are extremely beneficial for children,
as they enhance their knowledge of safety around water and further their skills and
stroke development.

Students tend to be more hungry during swimming lesson week so we ask that you consider providing your child with an extra snack each day to help them through.
Your child will also likely be more tired and emotional during the week, which can be noticed at school and home. This is normal and expected.
