Welcome Back to School!

I hope you and your family had a restful and enjoyable Winter break. I’ve heard that some families ventured north, others travelled further afield, and a few even tested out the new surf break at Middleton Beach!

Our teachers also enjoyed the break and returned refreshed for our annual ACC Staff Conference. This time together was invaluable as we reflected on our teaching practices, reviewed our approaches to behaviour management, and planned ways to further support the wellbeing and learning of our students. We welcome Miss Kiara Torr as our Kindergarten teacher this term. She is an experienced Early Childhood Teacher who is well known in the Albany musical scene. Please welcome her to our school.

We are excited about the semester ahead and class newsletters will arrive in your emails shortly describing the wonderful activities that will take place this term. This term some of the highlights will be:

Soccer Canteen 2nd August

Book Week Parade 21st August

St Joseph’s Choir Incursion 27th August

Father’s Day Stall 5th September

Primary Music Festival 10th September

Year 6 Student Leaders

In the final week of last term, our Year 6 students delivered speeches to the upper primary cohort, hoping to be elected as School Leaders. The teachers and I were incredibly impressed by the number of students who put themselves forward, eager to lead and serve their peers.

Each speech demonstrated impressive effort, courage, and a genuine desire to make a difference. These 19 students showed true leadership by volunteering for these roles and participating in the process.

Following a democratic vote by the students, six clear leaders emerged — and we are proud to announce our inaugural ACC Primary School Student Leaders:

  • Ryker Westthorp

  • Rianna Vashist

  • Mary Smith

  • Georgia Marwick

  • Oscar Keenan

  • Elijah Bresanello

Congratulations to these outstanding students. We look forward to the positive impact they will have on our school community as they take on their new leadership roles with enthusiasm and integrity.

Parent Teacher Meetings

Parent teacher meetings took place in Week 1 on Tuesday and Thursday. Parent teacher meetings are a twice yearly mandatory opportunity for our teachers to have a discussion with parents and caregivers about their child’s academic, behavioural,  and social achievements, as well as steps forward.

Get Ready for the 2025 Children's Book Week! The Children's Book Council of Australia's Book Week is coming in Week 4, and we have a range of exciting activities planned across the school!

To help prepare, start thinking about your book character costume, bring in an old book for our book folding activity, and donate a new book to the school library of your choice. We’ll also be hosting a Book Swap, so it’s the perfect time to Marie Kondo your bookshelves at home and pass on stories you’ve loved.

This year’s theme is “Book an Adventure”, which encourages children to embark on literary journeys and explore new worlds through reading.

Our Primary Mobile Library will be a key part of the celebrations, and we’re excited to showcase our most treasured books in a central display for everyone to enjoy.

Book Week 2025 - Primary

MONDAY 18th August - Book Folding

Bring an old novel to fold during break times. This will happen in the library area of the ground floor of C Block at lunch time.

WEDNESDAY 20th August - Book Swap

Bring in pre-loved books you no longer read and swap them for something new! Students who donate get first pick from the book pool. After that, all students can choose a book to take home. Drop books off with your classroom teacher. Let’s share the joy of reading!

THURSDAY 21st August - Grand Parade

Dress up as your favourite character. This year’s theme is Book an Adventure and invites readers to explore the exciting worlds found in books. Families and carers are welcome to attend the parade. The parade starts at 9am.

FRIDAY 22nd August  - Chapters and Chill

Our graduating Year 12 students will host a day of reading in our comfort wear. Comfort wear is comfy tracksuits or onesies. Please bring a gold coin donation - this is a fundraiser for Year 12 graduation.

Donate a Book

Donate a new book to your class in exchange for an ice cream. This is a chance for parents and community members to contribute to the class library. Please write a message in the front cover so we can honour you, and give to your child's classroom or PC teacher.

Year 1 and 2 Tuck Shop – Learning Through Real-Life Maths!

The Year 1 and 2 classes are developing their financial management skills by running a tuck shop during first recess. They are responsible for selling healthy snacks, including popcorn bags and Quelch fruit juice icy poles, each priced at $1.

This hands-on activity helps students practice addition and subtraction, as well as recognise and handle coins and notes in a real-world context.

Funds raised from the tuck shop go towards purchasing prizes for our Home Reading Program. As students reach reading milestones — at 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 nights — they’ll receive a well-earned icy pole reward.

Please support our young entrepreneurs by visiting the tuck shop and helping them on their journey to becoming confident, capable learners!

Psalm 23

This term we are memorising Psalm 23. We love this psalm as it describes how God leads, guides, protects and loves us. I personally like all the sheep/shepherd metaphors.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
