Isaiah 61:11: "For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations."
What a lovely verse to herald in Spring. Even though it is not quite Spring in temperature there are a few hints. We are practicing our athletics events in preparation for the carnival season, the Kindergarten peas are podding and the magpies are becoming territorial.
The last few weeks have been very busy across the school, with great learning opportunities and events.
The Old Gaol: A Glimpse Into The Past
Our Year 4 students left their recent excursion with a newfound appreciation for the comforts of home. The trip to the historic convict gaol offered a stark contrast to their modern lives.
The students learned about the harsh realities of life in a 19th-century prison. The tiny, cold cells, with their high barred windows and beds made of hard wood and scratchy hessian bags gave them a vivid sense of what it was like for the inmates. The single woollen blanket provided little warmth, making their own beds at home feel incredibly luxurious in comparison.
The gaol was originally built as a prison for the colony of Frederickstown and later served as a public prison. The students were fascinated by the stocks outside, and they took turns posing as convicts, sparking their imagination and helping them better understand the forms of punishment used during that time.
It was a great day filled with valuable learning experiences for everyone.

Scitech Incursion
The Year 5s and Year 6s had the opportunity to participate in a SCITECH Virtual Incursion. The Year 5s engaged in an Earth and Space learning experience and the Year 6s explored Puzzling Physics.
The Year 5s engaged in an online session allowing students to explore fascinating concepts such as the movement of planets and the role of the Sun as our main energy source. The interactive format gave students the opportunity to ask questions, watch demonstrations, and deepen their understanding of our solar system. They even watched a live interview with famous American astronaut, Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger.
The Year 6s explored how physics is at the heart of space exploration, from figuring out how a rocket blasts off, to explaining how astronauts float in space. The session featured scientists from the Australian Space Agency, highlighting new discoveries and expeditions made by our very own leading experts in Australia. We learnt about the new Square Kilometre Array, a new project underway in Murchison, WA, to become the world’s largest telescope, furthering our understanding of the universe!
