Happy New Year and a very warm welcome back to school!

I hope your Christmas break was a chance for rest and restoration with your family. As we start  2026, there is a sense of excitement in the air—a time of fresh beginnings, new friends, new grade levels and new teachers.

A special welcome to our new little Kindergarteners and the many new students joining the ACC community: we are so glad you’re here. We recognise that many families have travelled from across Australia to make Albany their new home. Please know that our staff and students are eager to help you settle in; we are committed to ensuring you feel at home in ACC and Albany from your very first day.

As we look to the year ahead, we are filled with anticipation for the growth and success awaiting every student. In the Primary School, our strategic focus for 2026 is consolidation and consistency. By refining our proven teaching methods and behaviour expectations, we will continue to provide a stable, high-quality foundation where every child can flourish. We aren't just teaching; we are building a consistent environment where excellence becomes a habit.

We look forward to partnering with you for a remarkable year of learning.

Communication

For questions about your child, the classroom teacher is your first point of contact, whether it's for a quick chat after school or via email. I am also available before and after school for conversations, or you can schedule a meeting through reception.

Classroom teacher communication will be through the teacher email; these are checked once a day. If the message is more urgent please call reception and the message will be passed on to the classroom teacher. Teachers are generally available for 5 minutes after school for a chat, though if you need more time please book a meeting.

We are committed to improving our communication at ACC. This includes improving our student information system. Previously we used Sentral and the associated app. This will no longer be used. All communication for the time being will be through your nominated email address. Occasionally we will send messages to your phone for last minute reminders or timely needs. Please bear with us as we transition to our new and improved system, Salesforce.

The Primary School staff are eager to begin the 2026 school year and will share their plans and ideas with all parents and caregivers via class letters.

Update to School Sporting Houses

As our school enrolment continues to grow, we are pleased to announce an expansion of our sports house or faction system. To better facilitate student participation and provide increased leadership opportunities, we are transitioning from two sporting houses to four.

The traditional Magpies (Blue) and Kangaroos (Red) houses will be replaced by the following:

  • Brumbies (Red)

  • Eagles (Blue)

  • Lions (Yellow)

  • Rams (Green)

This change allows for smaller house groups, fostering a stronger sense of belonging and ensuring more students can take on active roles during carnivals and school events.

We are currently finalising student allocations and will notify families of their child’s new house near the start of term. Once your child’s house is confirmed, you will be able to purchase the corresponding house polo shirt if desired. These will be optional to be worn on Thursday in the Primary School. Please be assured that siblings will be placed within the same house to maintain family continuity.
