It is particularly bittersweet to be writing this last newsletter update for ACC Southlands. I am so proud of the wonderful community that we have here at the Albany campus. I have been exceptionally blessed to have worked with such wonderful students, dedicated staff and supportive parents. While I am looking forward to my new role at ACC Darling Downs, I will greatly miss being part of the continued growth here at Albany.
This week, I had the privilege of visiting our ACC campuses in Launceston and Hobart. It is very encouraging to see students on the other side of the country wearing the ACC uniform and enjoying their learning in a supportive Christian environment, just like ours.
The major assessments for Semester Two have been finalised and staff have been working hard to provide feedback to students. The examination period for Years 7 - 10, Year 11 ATAR and Year 12 ATAR went smoothly. We also ran the first round of OLNA assessments for students across Years 9 to 12. These OLNA assessments demonstrate that students have met the minimum standards of literacy and numeracy to achieve the Western Australian Certificate of Education upon graduation from secondary school.
The Year 10 Parent Information Night was attended by Year 10 parents on Monday 10th June. This important night was an opportunity for parents to learn more about Year 11 and 12 studies. We went through topics such as the WACE, ATAR and General pathways, VET options and subject selections. Year 11 2025 subject selections are due by the end of this week.
Year 10 students attended the Deadly Careers Expo on 5th June. Students learned about careers in a variety of industries, including mining, hospitality and health care. Ernie Dingo was there to host the event, and students gained a lot of valuable information.
This week, Year 12 ATAR Geography students are completing fieldwork in Perth for the annual Geography camp. Students will be learning about urban planning, and infrastructure while applying geographical concepts to their exploration of the CBD.
On Friday, our team of dedicated mathematicians competed in the 'Albany Have Sum Fun' competition. The team of Year 9 - 10 students challenged themselves against teams from other local schools and enjoyed representing our school.

The Australian Defence Force visited our Year 10 students on Friday. The ADF brought their mobile career information centre for students to explore the wide range of opportunities for young people in the armed forces.
Next term, our Year 11 and 12 Visual Art and Graphic Design students will take part in our first Visual Art camp. Students will visit the Year 12 Pulse Exhibition, and see the very best artwork completed by Western Australian Year 12 students in 2023. We are looking forward to hearing about their adventures.
Semester One reports will be sent home this week. Please take time to review and discuss these with your students. Reports are just one of the ways that we communicate with parents, and they only provide an overview of your child’s progress. Teachers are always keen to partner with parents and would love to discuss your child’s learning in greater depth at the Parent Teacher Interviews in Week 2 of Term 3.
