Can you believe it? We are already at the end of Week Five!!
This term we have been very busy in DE. The Year 9 and 10 happy campers returned from a couple of brisk Autumn days from Busselton camp; Year 12s finished their Externally Set Tasks and mid-year examinations; Year 11s commence their examinations shortly; the first round of OLNA commences soon; and all secondary DE students have hit mid term term assessments.
It is truly phenomenal to see all the amazing adventures we get up to in DE! We may be geographically isolated, but as a community we are still able to come together, and ‘do’ school, just like on campus places of learning.
The highlight of our DE adventures this term would have to be the Year 9/10 Camp. We watched Mr Wiseman reign triumphant against his fierce competition in the chess world, students became supersonic sand launders as they threw themselves into the fun (and sand) conquering the gauntlet of ‘Fox Holes’, Mrs Smith created a group of experts in our music session with ‘The Cup Song’, Mr Ramsay, Mr Oaklands, Mrs Smith and Mr Wiseman gave the students a run for their money in some light hearted (yet fiercely competitive) basketball, we became pro-mini golfers and maze runners, ate like kings (thanks to the lovely Mrs Morton and Mrs Mellado), sat in stillness to share in morning and evening devotions, and last but not least we mastered the art of delivering oral presentations with clarity, strength and confidence, thanks to our workshops held with Mr Myles Pollard (NIDA graduate, actor and teacher). We had such an amazing couple of days together on camp, with students getting to know their teachers, and students forming friendships. I thank all the parents and guardians for taking the time to get students to the camp from afar, the staff who gave above and beyond to make our camp fabulous, and the students for being the brilliant young people that they are!
And can you believe, the fun of DE for the term doesn’t stop there. We have our Scitech Excursion coming up in Week 10! Phenomenal the things we get up to here in DE.
In all this busyness of school adventures (and school work), sporting commitments, jobs, catch ups with friends and family, and all the rest that the modern world presents, I encourage us each to remember to take time, be still and know that even in the busy, chaotic, sometimes uncertain and difficult times, God is in control.
